38 and 45-CALIBER AMMUNITION: Recovered artifacts from Bureau Number 35275 on Ponape - A .45 caliber and a .38 caliber shell casing. The .38 caliber shell casing is from an aircrew member's sidearm, while the .45 caliber shell casing was from a Thompson submachine gun located in the radio gunners' compartment. The markings on the .45 caliber casing indicates it was manufactured in 1941 by the Winchester Cartridge Company while the undated .38 caliber casing was manufactured by the Remington Union Cartridge Company.
