2008 REUNION - QUANTICO, VA

In May of 2008 squadron members and their guests met for their biennial reunion at Quantico, Virginia.  All told approximately 40 VMB-613 members, guests, widows, and children of 613'ers attended.  While at the reunion, attendees visited various sites in Washington, DC including the Marine Corps War Memorial, the World War II Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Vietnam War Memorial.  Their visit in Washington also included the Sunset Parade at the Marine Barracks compound at 8th and "I" where they viewed performances of the Marine Corps Band and the Silent Drill Team.  Members and their guests also visited the newly-opened National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico where they viewed the museum's extensive collection of aircraft, uniforms, weapons and other artifacts depicting the complete history of the United States Marine Corps.  The highlight of the week was a banquet hosted Saturday afternoon at the residence of Stan Zack and Linda Duvall.  Linda and her brother, Chuck Duvall, are the children of VMB-613 squadron member Charles R. Duvall and they generously hosted this banquet in the memory of their father as a way of saying "thanks" to our men for their service to our country.  At the banquet each member of VMB-613 was presented with an American flag  by a Marine in Dress Blues, accompanied by a smart salute and a message of thanks for their honorable service during the Second World War.  Members also shared numerous wartime memories after viewing Doctor Scott's movies of VMB-613 on Kwajalein in 1945, and hundreds of photographs from the collections of Bill Kehr, Art Navarre and Jerry Manning.  As the reunion closed, each member departed with a small flag and colored picture, presented by the youngest Yanacek children on behalf of Beth Cullom's students from California.
