Two planes of this squadron took off at 0845M from Tarawa for a visual reconnaissance and to obtain photographs of Ocean and Nauru Islands.  The planes proceeded to Ocean Island where it rendezvoused at 1010M with the Dumbo, a PBM from VH-5 at Majuro.  The two planes with the dumbo standing by remained over the target at Ocean for 15 minutes at 6000' altitude.  Weather was CAVU and good visual coverage was obtained.  The photo run was made from NW to SE just off the most developed section of the island.  The pilot flew at 5500' and 225 knots.  Meager inaccurate medium AA fire was observed by the photo plane.  No suspicious or unusual enemy activity was observed.  The three planes then proceeded to Nauru arriving on target at 1110M.  The PBJ's reconnoitered this island visually from an altitude of 8000' observing four single engine planes near the SE end of number 2 air strip.  The photo plane made a run over the air strips an contiguous shore line at 7000' and 225 knots.  Meager inaccurate light AA was observed from the SW part of the island.  The three planes then returned to base, the PBJ's landing at Tarawa at 1345M and the PBM proceeding to Majuro.
